Tonight, the Idol audition tour kicks off in Ottawa and Chris Labelle, 24 from Ottawa, ON is the first to face the judges. He's wearing a hat which they ask him to take off only to discover that he is balding and has bleached his remaining hair so it is snowy white. He's full of energy and sings
Ain't Too Proud to Beg. Zack doesn't believe he can sing so he launches into
I'll Be (Your Crying Shoulder) and has Jake saying at least he sings it honestly. He's getting a golden ticket and heading to Toronto making this a great start to the day.
Next up is 28 year old Hull, QC resident Julien Latreille looks like he needs a bathroom stop as he churns up
Johnny B. Goode. He's enthusiastic but I don't think he's going through. The same can be said for Kyle Davis, 16 from Pembrooke, ON who does a way below tempo version of
I Love the Night Life. Lylian Nuckle, 24 from Gatineau, QC runs
Believe into a very deep hole.
Katie Beetham, 25 from Ottawa, ON sings
Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me but ruins it by growling but she still manages to score herself a golden ticket.
Also singing some Elton John was D.J Eyamie, 27 from Ottawa, ON who impressed right from the word go. Sass asks him if he's serious about Canadian Idol and if he gets through, will he be making great song choices. He says that he will so he's also granted the golden pass to the theatre round.
Sass is obviously happy with DJ getting through and Jake says it all when he says how all the girls will be happy now. They then play a segment dedicated to all the boys who have entered the contest who made it through to Toronto to
It's Raining Men before Al McKinnon, 18 from Petawawa, ON walks into the room. He tells the judges that he's singing
Black Betty. The judges all start banging on the desk in unison to give him something to work with. He's actually not too bad considering the song is relatively non-melodic. The judges all like him though so he's another Ottawan off to Toronto.
Vanessa (21) and Tiffany Williams (16) from Ottawa, ON are confident they are definitely the next Canadian Idol. The sisters sing in church together and get to audition together. The do a duet together and despite me thinking they sound terrible and pitchy, they're going to Toronto as the first couple they've put through together.
Next up we meet Marc Perron, 25 Chelmsford, ON who is there with his mother. He sings
Bless the Broken Road as he tries to win over the judges as he's won over his mother. Zack says he's ok but that he doesn't see him as a star on the show. Jake however thinks he's great and along with Farley and Sass, gives him the ticket he needs to go through to the next round.
Following on from Marc is the chick with the long surname, Steffi DiDomenicantonio, 16 from Ottawa, ON. I really like her. She's extremely enthusiastic, gorgeous and has a great Jazz voice. She sings
Nothing is too Wonderful to be True and Zack thinks she is too showbiz sounding and that it wont work in the competition. Farley and Jake disagree and think that that will be enough to differentiate her in the competition. So she's off to Toronto thanks to Jake making the call.
Jenn Kee, 24 from London, ON is rocking the auditions next with a hard version of
Kiss from a Rose and gets Zack whistles as she gets to the improv stuff and then asks her to tie her hair up for him so he can see her face. The judges all love her charisma and ability so she's yet another contestant making it through to Toronto.
